Business Development Valuation Manager

About The Team

Anthem Emerging Business Group (EBG) is a new team designed to create new business models and alternative sources of future growth for the enterprise.  The EBG team will coordinate with Anthem and its vast array of partners to rapidly translate emerging constituent needs into new assets. EBG will leverage Anthem core competencies and enterprise resources and also enhance/develop distinct partnerships and relationships to innovate market leading solutions.


Responsible for supporting the development of new concepts/innovation for Emerging Business Group.  As a member of the EBG Analytics, Business Case, and Valuation team, manager will quantify enterprise value of prospective opportunities.  Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:


  • Leads the analysis of new concepts/innovation to determine optimal business strategy by building financial forecasts, ROI, business cases for emerging ventures, business models.
  • Establishes success measures.  Measure, track performance and contributed value for EBG.
  • Align with FP&A, Treasury, Corp Dev on business cases, financial forecasts, value realization.
  • Develops clear and concise presentations for an executive audience outlining the opportunity, including its strategic fit, financial return, risk and profile.
  • Assists the EBG team in ventures and other strategic partnership relationships to help Anthem commercialize assets and solutions, invest in companies and obtain relationships to grow the revenue and profitability of the company.
  • Oversees  research, analysis and the development of recommendations on the external environment as part of the development of strategic business plans.  
  • Analyzes major competitor strategies. Identifies and monitors changing patterns of competition and recommends response.
  • Acquires and maintains data/information on market, industry, economic, consumer and competitive conditions and trends pertaining to health insurance/managed care and related services. 
  • Consolidates data, analyses and recommendations into concise business plans.  Develops and implements project plans and oversees project resources.  Leads the activities of lower level staff performing related functions.

Requires a BA/BS degree; 5-7 years of business development experience including 7 years of healthcare related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Masters degree preferred. Ability to travel may be required.

  • Familiarity evaluating/exploring/integrating market trends.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, financial acumen, sense of curiosity, and effective problem solving.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Has a bias for action and is orientated towards achieving results.
  • CPA, CMA, FSA, and/or CFA preferred.
