This position will serve as General Counsel of the Behavioral Health division of Diversified Business Group (DBG), which operates under the name Beacon.  Beacon is a managed behavioral health organization that currently serves 42 million members across the country, has a network of more than 100,000 providers, and has $6 billion in annualized revenue.  This position will report directly to the General Counsel of DBG and will lead a team of attorneys and legal specialists.

Primary duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Beacon President, helping to implement his strategic vision
  • Assist the business leadership with formulating strategies for creating complex business arrangements to support growth and innovation efforts
  • Establish a proactive, engaged partnership with Beacon business leadership to prevent or reduce the unnecessary escalation of issues
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on legal issues specific to behavioral health organizations and help the business to focus their efforts based on the legal/regulatory landscape
  • Collaborate with DBG and Anthem senior business and legal leaders
  • Work on extremely complex and multifaceted problems in which analysis of solutions and/or facts require an evaluation of intangible variables
  • Develop methods, approaches, and evaluation criteria for advising the business on the level of risk
  • Manage multiple, high-profile, fast-moving projects in an organized manner, paying close attention to details
  • Be part of the DBG legal team helping to establish best practices across all the DBG legal entities
  • Responsible for managing a team of attorneys and/or paralegals who provide legal support for clients, including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating direct reports
  • Provide concise and timely briefings to senior-level business and upper-level legal management
  • Lead legal projects which have a broad organizational impact and high level of risk

Qualifications

  • Requires a JD, current license to practice law and a minimum of 15 years of health care legal experience including in-house counsel experience managing a staff.
